The 2015 championship will come down to the wire after tonight's Grand Prix cliffhanger in Vienna was won by Luciana Diniz (POR) setting up an epic series climax.
With a €1 million bonus at stake at the final in Qatar, three of the world's top riders have the chance to take the Longines Global Champions Tour crown. Luciana's blistering victory in Vienna on her aptly named grey stallion Winningmood, has closed the gap on ranking leader and World No1 Scott Brash (GBR). Luciana is now only a wafer thin two points behind Scott and as she celebrated her lastest win she threw down the gauntlet and said: "I am going to be pushing you."
Next to Rome's Olympic Stadium and in a unique arena surrounded by classical marble statues, the gladiators of show jumping thrilled thousands of fans who lined the natural amphitheatre to cheer on the world's top riders.
The final podium of the €300,000 Grand Prix was truly world class. Rolf took first place in emphatic style with the extraordinarily consistent stallion Casall ASK. Luciana Diniz and Fit for Fun finished second with Germany's Marcus Ehning in third position.
German champion Marcus described the venue as "unbelievable" for show jumping and images of the location were beamed around the world to fans of the sport online and on TV.
Luciana Diniz (POR), currently second on the ranking leaderboard, has thrown down the gauntlet to her rivals by bringing star stallion Winningmood to the impressive Stadio dei Marmi venue. With just 22 points difference between her and ranking leader and world number 1 Scott Brash (GBR), Luciana will be hoping for a strong performance as the 2015 Championship battle gallops to an exciting climax with the final three events of the season.
